Summer 1

Year 2 Blog Summer 1 – Poles Apart

This adventure launched with penguin eggs arriving in a basket with a label that said ‘get me home’! There were lots of chopped up pictures that we had to put back together to guess what our new adventure was about.

In Science we looked at different habitats and how animals adapt to their environments. We compared things that are alive, living and have never been alive. We investigated micro habitats in our school grounds such as under logs and rocks, and looked closely at the wildlife living there. We created food chains using coloured paper and pens!

We had an incredible visit from Zoo Lab where we were able to look at and hold lots of different animals such as snakes, spiders and tortoises! We were very brave!

In English we have been exploring fact books about Polar Bears and created our own non chronological report. We have been learning how to navigate non-fiction texts, how to use commas in a list and built upon our knowledge of conjunctions and suffixes. We have been reading the book ‘Leaf’, exploring character feelings and themes of climate change.

In Maths we have been continuing to learn about multiplication and division by helping the penguins count their eggs and return them to their right parents. We have continued to learn about place value in particular partitioning numbers and using the less than and greater than symbols.

In RE we have been thinking about how Christians perceive God, what we understand by ‘God the Father’ and the ways he is portrayed in the Prodigal Son and Jonah and the Whale.

We created and sold board games so that we could raise money to sponsor a penguin in the Arctic! Thank you for your donations.

This half term we have also carried out our quizzes. We showed incredible resilience and determination during this time.

Well done Year 2. What a half term!
