Safeguarding

Safeguarding

At Pilgrims' Cross, Safeguarding is our priority. We work hard to establish a safe environment for our pupils- from safer recruitment processes to ensure all our staff and visitors are safe adults, through review, discussion and embedding of policies, to the ongoing development of a culture where everyone knows that "safeguarding is our responsibility" and "it could happen here". Staff are encouraged to be supportive and professionally curious when they work with our pupils and know what do do if anything concerns them.

Our staff and Governors undertake regular safeguarding training, which includes yearly revision of the Prevent Strategy - which focuses upon radicalisation and extremism. Should you ever be concerned about radicalisation or extremism in our community, then please do arrange to speak to one of our DSLs (Mr Cascarini- headteacher@pilgrimscross.co.uk, Mrs Hutchison- senco@pilgrimscross.co.uk or Mrs Hathaway- familysupport@pilgrimscross.co.uk). Follow the 'Contact Us' tab on this website and ask for a DSL, contact the school office or come and find us in person (see below).

Policies

Here are some of our key policies, which help us create our safeguarding culture. We use Local Authority and National guidance (such as "Keeping Children Safe in Education") to inform our policies. They are available on the policies section of the school website, or as paper copies from the school office.

Child Protection & Safeguarding Policies
These policies set out how our school keeps children safe, including procedures for reporting concerns, staff responsibilities, and links to local safeguarding arrangements.
Anti-Bullying & Behaviour Policies
The Behaviour Policy outlines our positive processes for the celebration of good behaviour and consequences if behaviour choices not in line with our values of Love, Courage & Trust are made. It also includes our "Pilgrims' Cross Compass", which all our pupils know helps them on their journey through their time with us. Our Anti-Bullying Policy clearly outlines that we have a zero-tolerance towards ANY form of bullying behaviour at Pilgrims' Cross. It also includes measures to prevent bullying, including cyber-bullying and discriminatory bullying.
Complaints policy
This policy explains how parents/carers can raise concerns, including those about safeguarding.

Staff code of conduct- This policy gives more information on how staff are to conduct themselves in their professional duties.
Low-Level Concerns Policy- This policy sets out how low-level concerns can be raised about anyone working with children at Pilgrims' Cross.

Internet & Tech. Safety

Through our curriculum, we develop children's growing understanding of how to keep themselves safe in-person and online. We have policies too, which specifically give guidance, including our Mobile Phone & Tech. PolicyAcceptable Use of IT and Acceptable use of AI policies. Our PSHE&RSE Policy also outlines curriculum areas where safeguarding is in focus.
