YEAR 5 - Ash

Throughout the year the children are guided through a series of Learning Adventures. Below is a review of the last Learning Adventure with some associated photos, ENJOY!

Summer 1 Learning Adventure - We are the future

Spring 2 Learning Adventure - Medieval Adventure

After our frozen planet adventure Year 5 went back to medieval times! The year 5 team is so proud of the way Ash class has worked this term and thoroughly enjoyed our learning adventures!

In English studying the incredible Phillip Pullman fantasy book ‘Clockwork’ inspired some amazing atmospheric writing and we created our own battle narrative as a class. The children created characters and a plot of which they each wrote a section to create a final piece. The children used their sewing skills to retell this story in the form of a tapestry.

In Math’s we have been working on our decimal number knowledge with our Billionaire Boy inspired work with money. In addition, our shape investigations resulted in the design and build of a model castle for William the Conqueror!

As well as learning about the plague Year 5 studied the events of 1066 which was re-enacted to produce an informative and entertaining historical drama. Parents joined us for the film premier, which was enjoyed by all. Our WOW trip to Warwick Castle was a huge success. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the visit as they stepped into medieval times within the castle, had a tour of the defences and saw an incredible falconry display!

Year 5 also met a serious problem- we had to use our knowledge of separating materials to save our friend from dying of the plague. Luckily, he is now healthy and well because of the pupils incredible filtering and freezing techniques!

In RE, our pupils have worked incredibly well on the theme of ‘salvation’ and have studied the Easter story to support their understanding.

This whole adventure has been such a joy to share with the pupils- next time we head forward in time to the future because “We are the future!”

Thank you for your continued support with homework and reading, it is greatly appreciated by us all.

Best wishes

Spring 2 Learning Adventure - Medieval Adventure

Spring 1 Learning Adventure - Frozen Planet

What a start to 2017! The year 5 team are so proud of the way Ash class has worked this term and we have ALL thoroughly enjoyed this very ‘cool’ adventure!

In English we have enjoyed writing Scott of the Antarctic diaries and studying the incredible Phillip Pullman fantasy book ‘Clockwork’.

In Maths, we have been working on our number knowledge and have even been working out patterns with squared, cubed and prime numbers. The children used their knowledge to create some amazing board games to challenge the year 6s!

The pupils have researched the ice caps and polar exploration and used drama to explore the conditions polar explorers would face.

A highlight must be the visit of the ‘explorer dome’ which took the children on a journey through different climates which they explored through practical activities.

During our explorer day the children had to work together to complete a set of practical challenges on their journey to the pole. We a made a warming tomato soup and croutons from scratch to share with parents at our parent event in the afternoon.

In RE, our pupils have worked incredibly well on the theme of ‘Temptation’ and have been studying the story of Adam and Eve to support our understanding.

This whole adventure has been such a joy to share with the pupils- next time we head back in time to Medieval Britain!

Thank you for your continued support with homework and reading, it is greatly appreciated by us all.

Best wishes
